October 20-24, 2004 - The last few days have all been about the same old thing, moving stuff around and taking care of business. So there hasn't been much to take pictures of or to write about, so I thought that I would at least put something in here for you to read so that you would know that I'm still here. I carry my camera with me every day but it has stayed right there on my hip, it's been cloudy so there isn't much to see, and besides, it would all be from around the shop.
October 19, 2004 - Today I did some running around getting things in motion for my start of building frames for me and for working on some frames for another artist. I am trying to come up with a new design that will let him use some older frames and not have to use any glass for his new work, but still give the look of having white matting around the image still.
October 18, 2004 - Ah, back home, and now to start all over again, but first I did a little of nothing today. It was nice to be home and have a day off from driving on to the next show, but give me a few weeks of building frames and putting things together and I'll want to be back out there again.
October 17, 2004 - Well, I'm almost home and as I was going over my images to use for the day, I happened to go back to the first day that I left home in January to go to Florida. And what I came up with was the first picture that I took on the road. And then I came back to my new images from my last day on the road home and came up with these two images for today, I don't think it could have been any better. First, leaving the cold and snowy, rainy, weather of the northwest and heading to Florida, and then coming back home and it is raining again. I also thought that it was interesting that the two images were so much a like with the trucks and all. So now I will be back home for two months, and I get to really work on my new process, and work on some new, bigger images , and then it will start all over again.
October 16, 2004 - Left Palm Springs today around 1:30, and had to fight the wind coming through the cut in the mountains between LA and the valley. It was windy enough that you could almost watch the gas gage drop from fighting the wind, and at $2.50 a gallon that was a terrible thing to see. As I left Palm Springs today I did these shots of the windmills out there.
October 15, 2004 - Spent some time wondering around out in the desert today, on my way to Palm Springs. Collected some more rocks for Radar, and did a couple of panoramic type shots , and some shots of the different types of cactus out here.
October 14, 2004 - I left El Paso this morning right along with the morning traffic. It wasn't to bad and before long I was just zipping along on the freeway. By the afternoon I was in Tucson and stopped in to visit an old friend that lives there. As I left town that afternoon I happened to see a time and temp board, at 5:00 that afternoon it was still 90 degrees out, and it felt like it too. I made it all the way to Gila Bend that evening, and along the way I stopped to catch the sunset, and did this shot of the car going by at the same time.
October 13, 2004 - I wanted to put on some miles today, but also wanted to go on the side roads, so I left San Antonio at around 6:30 this morning. It was a nice sunny day with the high up in the 80's, which was nice for traveling around those back roads and snapping some pictures. The first image is of some prickly pear cactus, some of the fruit is getting ripe and can be eaten, the other image is towards late afternoon and shot out the window as I headed towards El Paso, TX.
October 12, 2004 - Finally, I left Houston this afternoon. I can now use the key again, much better than trying to pull up on this tiny little bit of metal. So I thought I would put on a few miles today and then stop in San Antonio for the night. Tomorrow I will try and put on around 6 to 700 miles and get into New Mexico somewhere. The images today are of my last sunset in Texas for the year and of driving through to the other side of San Antonio so that I don't have to face the traffic tomorrow morning.
October 9, 10, 11, 2004 - Sorry about not having anything up in the past few days, but it's been pretty hectic. Saturday morning when I went out to go to the show I found that my van was missing. Some where between 7:45 and 8:15 in the morning someone stole my van. So as you can see my mind was else where. By Saturday evening, after we got back in from dinner , I noticed that the red light was blinking on the phone so when I answered it I learned that they had recovered it by noon that same day. Mike and I went out to get it the next morning, and I was back at the show by noon on Sunday. I ended up losing a few things but at least I got the van back. So today as I got ready to leave Houston, I thought I would stop and see about getting the key fixed where they had smashed in the column. I will be back there again tomorrow because they are still missing a part, but by the time I leave tomorrow at least I will be able to use the key to start my van again. So todays images are #1, Sunday afternoon at the fair and #2, the chair that I spent part of the day in waiting for my van.
October 8, 2004 - Got into Houston this afternoon, checked into the hotel, and then went over to where the show will be and got ready to setup. We were able to start at 7:30 this evening, and by the time I left there it was 1:30 in the morning. The images are of the drive into Houston and of my booth during setup. It's now 2:35 in the morning and time to hit the hay.
October 7, 2004 - I left Chattanooga today and put in a long day of driving to get as far down the road as I could. tomorrow I will have to be in Houston to set up for the Bayou City Arts Festival. So today the images are out the window shots again.
October 6, 2004 - Today I would get to Chattanooga, so I was able to take some other side trips along the backroads of Virginia and Tennessee. It was a nice sunny day with the high at almost 80 degrees, which I better enjoy because in a few more weeks I'll be back home in the rain in the northwest. So along these backroads, the corn is turning brown and made a great front for the old barn. In the other image, As I got into Tennessee I came across several of these old barns with this advertising on them for Rock City, which is above the city of Chattanooga, and where you can see 7 different states from one of the vantage points up there.
October 5, 2004 - I left Harrisonburg this morning and was going to head on down towards Chattanooga, TN, but instead I headed over towards West Virginia and the New River Bridge. I drove in a little loop pattern and after 300 miles, came back out onto Interstate 81 around 150 miles from where I started. Being from the west coast, our buildings and history of our land is not as old. So when I come out here it's interesting to see homes that are still standing and in use that are two to three hundred years old, and now I know the meaning of runs and hollows. So, anyway, The images of the day are of one of the back roads I drove down and of the Humpback Covered Bridge in West Virginia.
October 4, 2004 - Not much today, got out of Armonk around 11:30 this morning and headed on down the road. I put on almost 400 miles today and ended up in Harrisonburg, VA. That was after traveling through 5 different states. The images of the day are from out the window, the first is of the Tappen Zee Bridge as I was on my way out of New York. The other image is of what you can sometimes see out your rear view mirror, with all those teeth it can look pretty menacing.
October 3, 2004 - Beautiful day today, after a cloudy day yesterday it was great to see the sun shinning. I think the crowds of people there enjoyed the sun to. The first image was from around noon, when it started to warm up and take the chill out of the air. Later in the afternoon, the younger folk gathered around the booth next to me to watch the marbles roll through some kinetic sculpture, their parents had a hard time dragging them away.
October 2, 2004 - Today was day one of the Armonk Arts Festival, and was supposed to be partly sunny, but the whole day was a cloudy almost rainy kinda day. And just as we where closing down for the evening it started to sprinkle a little. But tomorrow is supposed to be a nice sunny day with the high around 68 degrees, so hopefully it will bring in some more people. The images of the day are of the show it self and of my booth with more of my new work in it.
October 1, 2004 - Made it into Armonk around noon today and went to the art fair to start setting up for my show this weekend. The weather was great today with no clouds and a high around 74 degrees, hopefully it will stay this way through the weekend. So todays images are of the grounds where the show will be held and of my booth as I was closing it down for the night.
