January 31, 2005 - Wow! the last day of the month already, only 11 more months to go before Christmas, again. It's amazing how fast it all goes by when you travel around so much, and only see your place a few times a month. Plus, with jurying for shows that are still 6 months away, and they already want your money, and you are just starting to do shows for the year, you are already thinking 6 months ahead. I also have a few shows that are in October and November and just got my applications for them. It seems that every year it gets earlier. Well that's it for today, see you next month.
January 30, 2005 - Well here I am again, not much going on, just trying do get some things done around here before I leave this Thursday, back down to Orlando for another show.
January 29, 2005 - Today was just another day of doing a little work on the shed and also sending out some applications for more shows. I have also been doing some timed exposures inside with my pinhole camera with just the available lighting, my times have been around 10 to 12 minutes for my exposures but I am still a little off, I will try some 20 minute exposures next.
January 28, 2005 - Well I ran up to the airport this morning and was able to send out some frames, which was great , because it was getting a little crowded in my shop. I also was able to pick up some film so now I will do some shots in the next few days with my pinhole camera, and have some fun.
January 27, 2005 - Well, here I am, no pictures again. I guess that's what you get when all you do is work in your shop and don't get a chance to do anything else. But tomorrow I will run up to Seattle and pick up some film for use in my pinhole camera and try and get a few shots up on my page with that camera.
January 26, 2005 - Ah, that's more like it. I like posting pictures on this page, it makes me feel like something is happening. It was another day of being out in the shop, working on some boxes that will have a picture mounted on them, and then this will be mounted into another frame that will give them a look of floating in it. I only have around 200 hundred of these to build, I am almost done with 170 of them, and will ship them out on Friday, so that the artist can start puting his work on them, then by the first of March I will send him the completed frames so that he can put them the rest of the way together. The weather around here has been okay, they keep calling for lots of rain, but that hasn't happened yet. It also means no snow up in the mountains, so the ski resorts haven't opened, and less snow now means that if we have a hot summer, it could be pretty dry around here, but that's still a while off so we will just have to wait and see. I hope to be able to finish my new shed before we do get any more rain, it's alot easier to work on it when it's dry. So anyway, Here are some new shots, even if they are boring, at least they are something to look at. The first one is at sunrise and going out to the shop, while the second is of me cleaning up the edge of what I call the picture box frame for this other artist. And, as you can see if you look out the door, we really do get the sun shining down on the northwest in the winter. I think the high for the day was around 55 degrees, much better than the weather back east. Well, that about does it for today, see you later.
January 25, 2005 - Work, work, work, That's all I'm good for around here. It seems that all I do is get up go out to the shop and build frames, ah! but it pays the bills.
January 24, 2005 - Just another day of working in my shop, building frames, and waiting to hear from the art festivals to see if I got in or not. Not much else going on. I am getting ready to build an 8x10 pinhole camera though, I found a few film holders at a place down in Texas, their kinda beaten up but the price was right ,and by the time I get done with them they will go nicely with the camera.
January 23, 2005 - Today I got the other two end walls up on my new storage shed, now it's just getting a roof on it and some siding around the outside, and I can move some frames and lumber out into it and get some more room in my shop. So todays images are of the framing of my new shed, and of the frames that are building up in my shop, and need to go out into that shed once it's done so I have some more room to build more frames. And round and round we go, when will it ever end. Well now it's back to work, I'm busy loading my images that I shot last year with my digital camera down onto CD's, so I have some more room to put more images from this year on my laptop.
January 22, 2005 - Today was a pretty uneventfull day, I worked on some things out in the shop, went and had lunch with some friends, and then came back that afternoon and spent the rest of the evening doing some paperwork. And then the day was over, see you later.
January 21, 2005 - Ta, Da! More pictures, I spent the day working on a new 10 x 12 shed for storing lumber, and finished frames. I hope to be done with it by the end of next week, so I can start moving frames into it for another artist, that I have been building. The weather has been just fine around here with a little sun and the highs up close to 60. But the next few days are calling for rain again, better get my shed done. The images today are of the construction of the shed.
January 20, 2005 - Ahhh... a day with no pictures, sorry about that. Just to much running around today, and with all the rain comming down, there just wasn't anything that I thought was that great out there to take a picture of. Hopefully that will change today.
January 19, 2005 - First day home, so I went out do visit my mom. While I was gone, there has been a lot of rain around here so as I drove by my brothers place I stopped and took a few shots of the water overflowing the banks of the stream running through his place. If I had been back a day earlier, the water would have been up over the road that is in the first picture. A lot of rivers in the western part of the state are flooding right now, it seems like most of the states are getting hit by rain or cold this month, hopefully February will be better. The images today are from all the water out at the ranch, see you tomorrow.
January 18, 2005 - Seems like I just got here and I'm already flying home. Well after a rainy weekend it will be good to get back to a rainy home, ha! ha!. So not much else is happening, so here are some shots for the day. The first is from the front of the tram as it takes you out to your terminal where you will fly out of, and the second shot is from the air looking down on the Atlantic seaboard, about over the coastline of Georgia. Well that about does it, see you later.
January 17, 2005 - Monday, and don't you know, it was a sunny day. It was cool though, with the front comimg down, the high was only around 54 degrees , and for around here that was pretty cold. As the afternoon wore on, it started to cloud up some, but that made for some greats shots down at the beach. Which is where todays shots come from, out along the Cape Canaveral National Sea Shore. The first image is from as I went out over the dunes, and looked out over the ocean, and the second is from along the crest of the dunes, looking north, with a wide angle view of the beach and the oceans waves crashing up along the shore. There is still a lot of damage along the east coast of Florida here from the storms last fall, and will still take a while to clean up. As you go through some of the towns ,there are still buildings with the windows missing out of them along with roof tiles and shingles missing from their roofs.
January 16, 2005 - Finally , it stopped raining around noon and people started to show up. This weekend was the first time that it has rained down here in the Miami area in over a month, except for a few sprinkles. When it rains, it pours. So now the first show of the year is over and now I fly home for two weeks before returning for my next show in Mt. Dora, FL. Todays images are from Sunday at the show. I don't think I have really seen the sun yet since I left home last Saturday, but they say Monday will be a sunny day, see you later.
January 15, 2005 - First day of the festival, seems like I was still on the road, rain, rain, rain, again. I haven't checked the weather yet but they say it will be a little better for the festival tomorrow. Here are a few shots from today.
January 14, 2005 - Well this was it, the last day of a long drive from one end of the states to the other end, almost 4,000 miles. And on this last day it rained and rained, the hardest through the whole trip. I hope that this was the last of it, but we will see tomorrow. It was also the afternoon of setup for the Beaux Arts Festival in Miami, which will start tomorrow. The images today are of that last rain on the turnpike between Gainesville and Miami , while the next shot is of setup at the show, I must be getting better at this, it only took me around 6 hours to set up this time.
January 13, 2005 - Left Gulfport this morning just as it started to rain, and that was it for the rest of the drive. I shot 15 images of the road today and everyone of them was of the rain smashing up against my windshield. This is supposed to be the last day and night of rain down here , by tomorrow the front should be through and with it bring in some cooler weather to the northern parts of Florida, while the Miami area will still be up in the high 70's which will be just fine for the art festival. As I started out this morning we had tornado warnings and wind gusts up to 50 miles per hour, and as I drove through the Pensacola area there was still a lot of damage left over from the storms that came through last fall. The images today are of one of the shots of the rain coming down on the drive, and the other is of one of the bridges that span some of the bays and rivers along I-10, the main route across Florida. The metal grating in this second image is replacement for some of the spans that were destroyed from the hurricane.
January 12, 2005 - Another day on the road. This time from Terrell, TX to Gulfport, MS. It started out as a cloudy, drizzly day and ended up the same way. In between, I had some patches of sun and wind. I pretty much stuck to the main hiway so that I could get some more miles on. Looking at my map, I will have another 775 miles left to go to Miami. I will slow down a little tomorrow and take a few back roads, and then go the rest of the way in to Miami on Friday, since I can't set up until the afternoon. Todays images are from the drive through Shreveport, and then from the Mississippi side of the river. This is in the town of Vicksburg, I also got a few shots of a train comimg across the bridge. Well, I guess that's about it for the night. See you tomorrow.
January 11, 2005 - Left Santa Rosa this morning with the sun rising right in front of my eyes, I better get another set of sun glasses, if I'm going to keep this up. The view looked pretty much the same from Santa Rosa all the way to Fort Worth. There is a lot of flat land with nothing but brush and small trees along the way. It did get warmer as I drove towards Fort Worth which felt pretty good, it was in the high 60's by the time I got into town. When I started out this morning I saw this train coming so I thought I would get a shot of it with all that flat land around it and with the clouds and early morning blue sky as a backdrop, but by the time I got the shot this truck was passing in front of it. I still thought it made a good shot though. The other image was from the freeway in Fort Worth, it was still light when I started out but with the traffic jambed up, I went around 3 miles in about an hour, I was able to get this sunset shot. After all that I still managed to make it to Terrell, TX for the night. Two more days and I'll be in Miami, still a little bit of driving to do.
January 10, 2005 - I finally made it out of the snow and rain today, put in another 700 miles and made it to Santa Rosa, NM. On the way out I went down through Moab and took this shot of the Colorado River as I crossed over it. Taking the back roads again, I also came across this Jeep made completely out of license plates and then the big bone on top. Then it was off again, and on my way east.
January 9, 2005 - Another day another 700 miles. This one started out a little rough though, I looked out my hotel window at 4:30 this morning and saw the snow coming down and with around 2 inches on the ground already, I thought it might be time to leave. With the snow coming down, and the fog, and the darkness, it made for a long drive over the Blue Mountains, almost 3 hours to go 45 miles to La Grande, OR. I did get some sun later in the day , but by the time I got to Salt Lake City it was dark and raining again. So I made it to Nephi for the evening, and tomorrow I will head out towards Moab, and then on to New Mexico, and points east. The images for today are from the truck stop where I got gas this morning, you can see the snow falling, and from later that morning down by the town of Lime, OR. Well that's it for today, see you later.
January 8, 2005 - Wahoo! Finally, back out on the road again, and also, I have my new stuff up on my site now. I will b e putting up more when I get back home after this little road trip down to Florida for my first show of the year. I hope that there are still some people out there that were waiting for me to start writing again, sorry it took so long. So anyway, I am now back out there, and today I made it down to Pendleton, Oregon, where I will get a good nights sleep and then hit it hard tomorrow and get down to Moab, Utah. So far the weather hasn't been a factor in my travels, just some snow at the top of the pass in Washington, and a few icy spots near Pasco and the Tri Citys. The images from today are from my trip as I drove up over the pass, I like that new snow look. Well, I think I'll get some sleep now, I want to try and be out of here by 6:00 tomorrow morning. See you tomorrow.
