April 24, 2005 - So, since the last time I wrote in here I have been doing the same old thing, building and spraying frames. So today, to maintain my sanity, I went for a little road trip up towards Mt. Rainier. I haven't been to this area in a few years now, so it was nice to go back into it again. I got up into the start of where the snow was still on the ground, and since it has been warm lately, the melting snow was creating a lot of rivulets and waterfalls. All in all, it was a good day. and when I got back I went back to work and was able to shoot a coat of lacquer on the last 30 frames for the day. So the images of the day are of one of the many small lakes up where I was, and of one of the many little waterfalls in the area. Hope your day was as good as mine.
April 17, 2005 - Good day to you all. I have now been home for a few days, and have been hard at work, building more frames and working on some new images. We have had quite a bit of rain the last few days, but we do need it, seeing as we didn't recieve that much snow up in the mountains this past winter. Two of the new images that I have been working on are of an old two story house in North Dakota, and a Blue Taxi down in Tucson AZ. I am pretty happy with the way that they turned out and have some plans to do something a little different with them. so that's about it for now, take care, and we'll see you later.
April 12, 2005 - Well I finally made it to Dallas. I stayed on the side roads today, since I only needed to go another 400 miles today. Again, I think I got some nice images for my wet print process, a few old buildings, and a car. When I got into town I went over to Love Field to drop off a box that will go back home to be refilled with more artwork for my next set of shows. After that it was off to get a hotel for the night and relax before tomorrow. The images for the day are of some horses in an old Pecan orchard, I might even try and use one of these shots to see how it comes out in my process. The other image is of an old gas station and store, that is now abandoned.
April 11, 2005 - Monday morning, get up, and drive almost 800 miles. That's what I did all day today. In between, I made a few stops and got some shots that I think might work for some new images. One was of the old motel sign, and the other was of the pecan house. Most of the day was a sunny one, but as I got closer to my final stop for the night, it began to rain, and it was one of those rains where it comes down by the bucket full. It seems as though I have run into these a lot this year. So onward I go, tomorrow I will be in Dallas and then fly home the next morning.
April 10, 2005 - Sunday at the art fair, and its another lovely day. A few clouds and a little breeze, and the temperature was around 82 degrees. The setup for this show wasnt bad, because they give you all day on Friday to set up your booth, but at closing time today its kind of a free for all. At least the show ends at 5:00 in the afternoon, so it still gives you time before it gets dark out there. I finally finished up at close to 9:00, and then hit the road and put on about 30 miles, just so I could stay out of traffic tomorrow morning. The pictures from today are of tear down and how everyone has everything stacked up behind their booths before they go and get their vans to load up. Well tomorrow will be a day of driving, because I have to be in Dallas by Tuesday evening so I can ship some boxes home and catch a plane home the next morning, so I only have 1200 miles to go.
April 09, 2005 - Saturday, and the festival begins. My last couple of shows have gone till later in the evening, so it seemed like the day was only half over when the show shut down for the day. Like the weatherman said, we had wonderful weather here today. A few clouds, a slight breeze, and nice sunny skies. The show is in a park that borders a salt water inlet, so some of the booths run along the edge. Today's images are of the booths along that waterfront and of the area where my booth is.
April 08, 2005 - Today was setup day for the Tarpon Springs Art festival. It starts tomorrow, but they give us all day today to get our booths up in the park. This show is one of those festivals where you have to cart in your booth and work. My booth was close to a gate so I only had to cart in around 50 yards into the show. I started at around 9:00 this morning, and finished up at 4:00 this afternoon. When you have that much time to set up you tend to wander and talk to other artists in the show. We are supposed to have nice weather for the show with highs in the low 80's and a slight breeze. It will be a little humid though, with all the rain they have had around here. The images today are of the setup of my booth during the day, I have a nice location and am facing east, so I don't have to deal with the afternoon sun and the heat it brings.
April 07, 2005 - I left Perry this morning, with lightning and thunder at my back and the rain and wind at my front. This is a front that has been following me all the way from Mobile. They say we will have one more day of this and then it will start to clear out by late friday afternoon. Tomorrow I will start to set up my booth and then do a little exploring around town. When I left this morning it was raining so hard and with the wind blowing and lighting crackling around me, I stuck my camera up to the windshield to capture this first shot. The second one is from later in the day, most of the old homes are in this kind of shape, and there are plenty of old oaks around to come up with a nice picture of the area.
April 06, 2005 - I left Mobile this morning and headed on over to Pensacola, FL to see if there were any improvements on what the area looks like after last falls hurricane. The park where the festival is held is in fine shape, but as I drove into the city, it is still a city of blue roofs, from all of the blue tarps that are still on the roofs until they are all repaired. Then I headed out to Pensacola Beach, which is where the hotel is where we usually stay. You can only go a few blocks in either direction out there, because there is still so much that is still destroyed. I talked to the lady at the toll booth, about when the roads might open up to go back to the park or to go south along the shore, and she said that it might take until next year before they will open up again. It looks pretty ugly out there. So then I dropped back to highway 89 and started on my drive south to Perry, which is where I planned to spend the night. I took my time and along the way I was able to get some nice shots that I might b able to do something with. Today's pictures are from along the road along the gulf coast. The first is from just down the coast from Pensacola, and you can still see what the winds and water has done to the shoreline. The other image is from farther down the bay in a little bay side town that lives off the oyster business, and this was one of the boats up along the beach. Then it was time to get moving, and get to Perry so I could get a room for the night, and here I am. See you all tomorrow.
April 05, 2005 - Another day of driving, this time I headed to Mobile, AL. Tomorrow Mike will head north towards Atlanta and I will continue east and then south to Tarpon Springs. Today we just stuck pretty much on I-10 through the rest of Texas, Louisiana, Mississippi, and now Alabama. I sometimes wonder how many times that I have crossed the states. But my van just keeps on going. Today's images are from as I was driving across the long bridge that is about 25 miles long as it crosses over the Atchaflaya swamp, and the second image is as I was following up behind Mike's white Ford van, as we went through Mississippi..
April 04, 2005 - So I made it into Houston for dinner this afternoon, ended up at Floyd's, a restaurant that we usually frequent when we do the Bayou City Art festival. Had a good dinner with my friends, Crawfish, Oysters, and some Gumbo, oh yea, and some beer to wash it down with. Then it was off to Beaumont Texas, where I will split a room with Mike, before he heads to Atlanta and I head towards Florida. Then it's back to Texas and then home for a few weeks to get some more stock and finish my frame order for another artist. So back to dinner, the two images kind of explain it all, and it was all good. see you tomorrow.
April 03, 2005 - Sunday and the party's over. We had great weather for the show with just a little breeze during the day. The festival started out a little slow this morning, but then it usually is at this show. By mid afternoon it was packed with people again. Then before you know it , it's 7:00 pm and time to start the long tear down, load the van, and then head on out and down the road. Tomorrow I will head back down to Houston, deliver a picture, and then have dinner with a few friends and then head out for Tarpon Springs in Florida and set up for another festival. The images from today are of the tear down, and the loading of my van, again.
April 02, 2005 - Day 2 in Deep Ellum. What a nice day, the weather was perfect, around 75 degrees, a slight breeze, and people. Hope the same is in store for tomorrow. Todays images are from the festival today, one from the early afternoon and one from around 10:00 that night.
April 01, 2005 - Today we had 40 to 60 mile an hour winds during setup at the art festival today. Booths were flying everywhere, and then I remembered that it was April 1, so April fools. So really, it was a little breezy for setup today, but by 6:00 pm when the fair opened the winds had calmed down and everything was just fine. So todays images are from a shot through my booth, out into the street, as people were walking by, while the other is of a bar / resteraunte that sits out across from my booth, I'll have to see if this will work for one of my wet prints. Well now it's 1 in the morning and I have to back again tomorrow so I better get some sleep. See you tomorrow,
