May 31, 2005 - And so another trip begins, and another month ends. I am now heading towards Columbus, OH which is where I will fly out of this week. When I return next Thursday, I will drive on to Pittsburgh and set up my booth that night after 9:00 pm. for the start of my next show at the Three Rivers Art Festival. So, now back to today. I left Dallas around 1:00 this afternoon and made it as far as Little Rock, AR. Along the way I saw several cars and trucks to shoot for some new images along with an old steel railway bridge that spans the Red River. I will try and do something with the bridge so I shot it in several different ways, from a single image like the one here to a panoramic image of 4 different images. Well that will do it for today, we'll see you later.
May 30, 2005 - Well, here we are ,finally, the last day of the show. This one was a wet one, we ended up with almost 4 inches of rain on Saturday. Today we finally had some sun, but also a very humid day. It is now 11:00 pm and I am now back at the hotel and I feel like I jumped into a lake. So, anyway, the images of the day are of people at the show during the day and of the teardown this evening.
May 29, 2005 - So another day is gone, and it's time to get out of the driveway, Ha! Ha!. When I left this evening it took a while to get over this little hump along the edge of the parking area. I was out of there a little sooner than most of the artist, because I was trying to get to a dinner engagement and also I kinda figured that it would be like this. I would like to have been around to see how everyone else made it out. The pictures of the day are of what the lot looked like this morning when I showed up.
May 28, 2005 - One word, used 5 times for effect, WET..............Lots of rain today, close to 2 inches worth. Hope tomorrow will be better. So with that long winded story over, here are the images of the day. The first is looking out over to the booth across the way, with the rain pouring off my roof and the second is of the water sitting on the ground before it comes running into my booth. Tomorrow will be a wonderfull day, see you then.
May 27, 2005 - Hola! It's Friday, and we still had this morning to finish setting up our booths for the 6:00 pm start of our show today. It was another warm muggy day , with highs up into the mid 80's and no breeze. The show went until 10:00 tonight and then will start back up at 10:00 each day this weekend and go till 10:00 at night. So tomorrow is when the show will really begin, with tonight just being a preview. Today, the images of the day are of the morning setup and of later that evening after the show had started.
May 26, 2005 - Well, here I am, it's Thursday and setup time in Addison, for the start of the art festival tomorrow. So far the weather has been on the fair side, with warm , cloudy days but not the thunder storms that they are talking about. But then, we still have 4 days of the show to go. So here are the images of the day, setup of my booth and the rest of the art festival.
May 25, 2005 - Well, today I made it down to Paris Texas, around 70 miles outside of Dallas. When I left McAlester this morning I stopped by an antique store to see if they had anything of interest inside, but most of what they had was glass and some paintings. When I stepped outside I was parked by this old theater so I had to get this image. Later in the day I also came across this old Chevy, which might work for another one of my images. By the time I got to Paris, it was getting a little late so I found a place for the night, and tomorrow morning I will head on into Dallas and go set up my booth. Then Friday morning I will go back and put my artwork in for the start of the show that evening. Then I will cross my fingers and hope for good weather for the coming weekend.
May 24, 2005 - Today I worked my way back across the state of Oklahoma, and I am now sitting in Mc Alester, OK. It was another hot muggy day, and we are expected to have some big thunder storms tonight. Today I got a few shots that might work for my images, one of them was the side of this old building with the words Bull Durham painted on it. and then there was this old bus sitting out in the woods, I don't know if it will work, but it's suprising what type of transformation goes on when I do work with the image. So tomorrow I will edge a little closer to Dallas, and will finally show up there on Thursday.
May 23, 2005 - So now it's off to Dallas. I put on 175 miles today and didn't get any closer, I did drive along RT. 66 though. It was another one of those hot muggy days again with the high hovering around 95 degrees again. While I was at the show I had several people say that I should go to the red barn on RT. 66 and take some shots of it for my process, so, todays images are of my drive along old historic Rt. 66 and of that red round barn.
May 22, 2005 - Another cooker out there today. At 1:00 this afternoon it was 92 degrees with a heat index of 101. Yesterday we had a breeze most of the day, but today there was only a wisp every once in a while. Still we did manage to have a lot of people out here today. The images of the day are of Larry, he is a leather worker who makes walets and purses. I have known him for a few years now, and have been next to each other at more than one show. the next image is of the teardown at the end of the show today. I now have a few days off before I will have to set up again down in Dallas for the next festival next weekend.
May 21, 2005 - Long, long, long, hot, hot hot hot day. It was a two fanner day in the booth today. The day started out a little slow because of the heat, but by the late afternoon it had started to cool down enough that the people started to come out for the evening, and all was good. So now it is 12:30 in the morning on Sunday and I am going to go to bed. So the images of the day are of my morning drive into Tulsa, and of the herding up of all the kids that stay for the music after the show. And now it is time to say good night.
May 20, 2005 - Another long day today. I got to my booth at 8:30 this morning and finally closed up at 11:00 tonight. So now for another fine meal of enchiladas from the little store on the corner, and then sit down and write about todays events. So it was a typical Friday with a crowd coming in at lunch and then a slow early afternoon. Then, after around 4:30 it started to get crowded for the evening. The two shots for the day are again , from in front of my booth looking up the street into the show and from between my booth and Larry the leatherman's booth, looking at the people as they pass by. Tomorrow it will be like this all day with the highs into the 90's, good thing I have a corner booth and a big fan inside. See you tomorrow.
May 19, 2005 - Thursday, and the first day of Mayfest. No rain, and no wind, what a difference. the last 5 years at this show it has been a stormy beginning to the show. Starting tomorrow it is going to climb up into the 90's for the high with a lot of humidity. So for the first day it was just like it has always been, a big lunch time crowd, and then slow until the late afternoon. The images from today are from the front of my booth looking up the street into the show, and the other is of my booth.
May 18, 2005 - So hello to everyone out there. It's been a while since I last wrote in here. There were some technical difficulties my last trip out, the hotel I was at had problems with their internet lines so I was not able to get on line to show you where I was. But I am here now. I have now been awake for 40 hours and am ready to hit the sack, but you all come first. I started out at home yesterday morning at 6:00 am, getting up and getting everything ready to leave, and doing some other things ready for when I get back. then it was off to the airport and catching a ride through Vegas, and on into Dallas, where I landed at 3:30 the next morning. Then it was off to Tulsa, where I am going for my next Art festival. I got there at 12:30 in the afternoon, checked in for my booth location, and then headed out to the airport here to pick up some art that I had shipped out to Tulsa. Then it was back to the show , where I started to set up my booth. By the time I got my booth put together and the panels in it, it was time to go and get some much needed sleep. I will go back tomorrow morning and finish putting in my artwork, we don't open tomorrow until 11:00 in the morning. So todays images are from the landing of the plane in Las Vegas, and of early morning on the road to Tulsa from Dallas. See you later.
