July 21, 2005 - We left Miles City this morning and headed up Highway 12, which would eventually take us into Missoula for the night. Along the way Ben got to see some road kill rattlesnake along with the usual things you see squished out there. Later in the day, as we drove through one of the towns along the route, we came across this old Milwaukee Road electric train, one of the last of it's type. After that it was on towards Missoula. On the last stretch of Highway 12 we stopped along the Little Blackfoot river, where I snapped this shot of these two guys fly fishing, although it is kinda hard to see them way back in the picture. After that it was on again towards Missoula and a place to stay for the night. Tomorrow it will be one more day of driving with a stop in Pullman to let Ben off, and then head on towards home myself.

July 20, 2005 - Today was a stretch, we put on almost 700 miles, and are now sitting in Miles City, MT. Along the way, though, we did find some time to stop and check out the worlds largest cow, at 38 feet tall, and a metal sculpture of some deer that stand up at over 40 feet. After that it was on down the road. Tomorrow we will head out on highway 12 and should be in Missoula that night.

July 19, 2005 - Today we headed up the mighty Mississippi river, and did some sightseeing along the way. I found some nice old building to shoot, and because of their age I thought it only appropriate that the final images should also reflect their age. After all that, it was time to stop at Cabela's and finally pick out some fishing gear for Ben. Then it was back to our homeward bound drive. We ended up here in St. Cloud, MN where we will spend the night, and then head out for North Dakota, and the Bad Lands.

July 18, 2005 - Finally left Chicago this morning, and headed out towards home. Instead of heading north on 94 we went down into Chicago and out the other side. So todays images are coming to you from down along the waterfront, looking into the downtown area, and a shot of Soldiers Field, where the Chicago Bears play their football games. After that it was on to Davenport Iowa, where we are spending the night before an early start tomorrow morning.

July 17, 2005 - Could it get any hotter! Just read the first part of yesterdays notes and add a few more hots to that. They talk on the news around here about a drought that they are going through and about the heat. It has been constant through the month of June and now July. Tonight on the news, they joked that even the 30 percent chance of a few thunder showers would feel cooler. So todays high was 98, and with the humidity, the heat index would make it feel more like 108! You could feel the sweat running down your back all day. And then came the end of the show and it was time to tear down and get out of there. Most of the artist had moved their vans in close to their booths and had things packed away pretty quick, so by the time Ben and I had a little pizza and got back to the booth it was a pretty easy teardown, I was out of there by 9:00 this evening. tomorrow we will head down through Chicago and turn right and start heading back home, see you all later.

July 16, 2005 - Hot, Hot, Hot, for effect, fried eggs on the street hot. And the forcast for tomorrow is, even hotter. They say it will be in the high 90's and humid. So, back to today. The first day of the show and the people were there for the show, but as the day wore on the heat had those same people moving on towards cooler pastures. the Images of the day are form outside my booth, with a shot looking out in each direction.

July 15, 2005 - Hola, not much to report today. It was pretty much a strait shot into Chicago to where the art festival will be. It is now 2:00 in the morning, and it's time to get some sleep before the show starts tomorrow. The images of today are of the last bit of road on the way in to town. And that's about it for tonight.

July 14, 2005 - Today was one of those short driving days. After a good meal to start out the day, we stopped at Cabela's, and checked out their fishing gear and some other things as well. then it was off to see the Corn Palace, a building in Mitchell, South Dakota that is decked out with corn, wheat, and other grains, to produce big murals around the whole outside of the building. This process is carried out each year, with different images each time. Then it was out onto the highway and onto Chicago. Later that afternoon, as we were driving through Minnesota, Ben was looking up in front of us and saw the start of a funnel cloud and the small tornado that it spawned. It was all pretty cool, I was hoping that it would get a little bigger, but that never happened. After that it was on to La Crosse, WI. and some sleep for the night.

July 13, 2005 - Well I was right, lot's of pictures, but also a lot of driving. We started out the morning by going out to Devils Tower, about 30 miles north of I-90, in Wyoming, and then went on into South Dakota to see Chief Crazy Horse, and MT. Rushmore. After that it was off to the Bad Lands and finally into Michell, South Dakota, after almost 600 miles, we got in at around 11:30 tonight. The images of the day are from the first stop at Devils Tower, and then from down the road at MT. Rushmore. And now it's time to get some sleep, there's still some driving left to do before I get to Chicago.

July 12, 2005 - Well, we didn't make it as far as we thought, but that means more to see tomorrow. We are now in Gillette, WY, and will stay here tonight and head out for Devils Tower tomorrow morning. After that it's on into South Dakota, and MT. Rushmore, and the Badlands. So it should be another full day again. After that it will be pretty much a strait shot into Chicago, I have to set up Friday afternoon, and we still have a ways to go. Today we did take some back roads and ended up at Custers Last Stand, at the Little Big Horn. It was also another hot one today with the high up into the mid 90's. The weather report for tomorrow said it will be up into the low 100's, wow! another hot one. So todays images are of an old homestead from the early 1900's in Montana, and of the Mint Bar in Sheridan, WY. It's also their big state rodeo this next weekend, gitty up cowboy. Well that's it for now see you all tomorrow.

July 11, 2005 - Back on the road again, this time back to Chicago. I was able to put on a few miles today, I made it all the way to Butte, Montana over 600 miles. Tomorrow we will go through Wyoming, and then into South Dakota, and will make several stops along the way. We should stop at Devils Tower, and then MT. Rushmore, before heading on into the Bad Lands of South Dakota. The images of today are of my drive through Eastern Washington, and then through Western Montana. Tomorrow should be a good day for some mighty fine images from out the window, see you then.
