October 31, 2005 - So, another quick day of driving. This time of year and driving in the middle of the day just don't work for taking pictures down here. You either have to be out there early in the morning or late in the afternoon, and in a area where there are some hills or anything else to shoot. This area is to flat. Also I wanted to get to Phoenix by this evening so that I will be in Palm Springs earlier tomorrow to go out and have sushi with some friends. So on the way to Phoenix I drove by this old water tower that was used by the railroad and thought that it would look kinda neat as a wet print so I stopped and shot it, and then headed on to Phoenix, and that was about it for the day. Then I remembered that it was also Halloween so I took a picture of myself, Happy Halloweeeeeeeeeeen!!!!!
October 30, 2005 - Well, so much for Texas this year, I'm sitting in a hotel on the 0 mile marker getting ready to drive into New Mexico first thing tomorrow morning. It was a pretty boring drive today, you can see that by the first image, this is what west Texas is all about. All the wide open spaces. Later on in the afternoon I saw this old cafe sitting out there in the middle of nowhere, so I circled around and took a hike out to see if there was anything worth shooting. This place is about a 1/4 mile off the main road and there are no traces of any road by this place, so it's been there for awhile. I ended up shooting around 10 different images of this place so I hope it was worth it, I think so, maybe, we'll see.
October 29, 2005 - You know, you can tell when you're finally on your way home. One, the shadow from your van is pushing you from the back. Two, you gain a hour every few states while you're driving towards home. And three, The closer you get, the faster you want to get there. So, today I'm sitting in Abilene, TX. After going down through Dallas and Ft Worth, that's about as far as I could go, not to mention, all the stops along the way. One of those stops was to shoot this old restaurant that was made from an old trolly. the other Image is from later in the afternoon, I walked all around this old place looking for something to reach out and grab me, but it just didn't happen. I think the shot of the old broken window about says it all, that house was just to far gone. Well tomorrow is another day, and there are lots of things out there just waiting to be seen. See you then.
October 28, 2005 - Ah! another day of driving along the by-ways of Kansas and Oklahoma. The more I headed south and to the west the warmer it got. That felt pretty good, I have to get as much as I can because pretty soon I'll be heading back up to the northwest where it will be cooler and rainy. So the first image of the day is of this old stone bridge that was built back in 1866. I had to go back over a dirt road for around 5 miles to get to it but the drive, I thought, was worth it. I also got a few other shots out here to. Then it was out onto the main road, where I went about 2 miles before I saw this old school back off the road around a half mile. I ended up shooting a series of images that I think might work out pretty well, but only when I get back to my place will I really know. I am now almost in Texas, I'm sitting right on the border, and will be in Dallas tomorrow morning to stop and do some shopping and then head back out on the road towards Phoenix.
October 27, 2005 - So ,I am now back on the road and on my way home. I left Hannibal this morning and started towards Dallas TX. On the way I got a few shots of the fall colors before I moved to far west and out of the trees and into the grass lands and some trees that just don't show there colors that well. Then it was through Kansas City, and on Emporia, KS, where I will spend the night.
October 26, 2005 - Well, today I spent my time crawling around in Mikes new church, home. We did some repair work on a furnace, and then he took me up into the neither regions of the outer walls of the church. First we had to climb up through a closet and then up a makeshift ladder that took you up over the arch of where the organ used to sit. Finally up in this area you were above the arched ceiling. This is where the first image is from, that's Mike crawling through the maze of timber that makes up the supports for the ceiling. Also in this enclosed area is an old huge leaded glass window that used to have another set of windows that were framed in behind it and let in sunlight which would shine through and light up the glass from behind when you viewed it from down below in the main room. What an incredible piece of glass and artwork. After that it was time to wiggle our way back out of there and head out to dinner, And that's it for today, Good night.
October 25, 2005 - Today was a drive that was only 195 miles and should have taken about 3 1/2 hours but ended up being around 8 hours of on and off driving. I took a lot of backroads again and saw lots of fall colors that are finally starting to change. One of the images I got today was this small barn around half way through the drive, and then towards the end, I went through this small valley and got this great view of the road heading back up and over and out of that same small valley. In the end I ended up in Hannibal, MO. There I will visit Melisa and Mike for a few days and then resume my trip back home.
October 24, 2005 - Hola, it's been a while since I was last on this site. Due to technical difficulties, like my laptop crashing, I was not able to put anything in here. But, now I'm back. So in the time that I have been off line I have done 4 more shows, from new York, to Houston, to Bethesda, to Nashville, Tennessee. In that time I have gathered up another couple hundred images, and was running out of space and cards for my camera, so it was just in time getting my laptop back. So now came the tough part, figuring out which images I would use for my first images. So I ended up using one of my shots from the Bayou City Art Festival, in Houston. This image is of some of my artist friends as we were getting ready to go out to dinner after the show closed for the evening on Saturday night. The next image is from later in the month, after the Bethesda Row Art Festival in Maryland. As I worked my way down to Nashville for my last show, I traveled up along the Shenandoah Skyway and then along the Blue Ridge Parkway. This second image is from one of the small waterfalls along the way. The weather was great for the whole trip, at least until after the Nashville show. As we packed out of that show it started to drizzle and by this morning when I got up and started my trip back towards home, it had started to rain. So, since it was raining, and I wanted to put on a few miles today, I thought that I would use a few of my past images instead. I hope you enjoy them, and it's great to be back online, see you tomorrow.
