Platinum/Palladium photography is a nineteenth century process that was patented in England in 1873.
Platinum and Palladium are two of the most stable elements in existence. Because of this, platinum/palladium photography is the most archival of photographic processes. This allows a platinum print to last for generations.
My exposures are made with film-based and digital cameras. An enlarged negative is created from the scanned negative or digital file.
Each piece of paper is hand coated with a mixture of platinum/palladium salts along with other sensitizing chemicals and left to dry.
The negative is placed in direct contact with the coated paper and exposed to ultraviolet light.
The image is then developed, cleared, washed and dried.
The result is a unique photographic print with a tonal range that surpasses a silver gelatin print and if kept under the proper conditions can last hundreds of years.
