This project was inspired after a weekend at "Photo Americas" in the fall of 2000. Photo Americas is an international celebration of photography held in Portland, Oregon. It includes exhibits hosted by museums and galleries throughout Portland. In addition to the exhibits is "Review Americas". Review Americas allows photographers to meet with curators, critics, gallery owners, collectors, and publishers in one-on-one portfolio reviews.
After two days of intense reviews, I was ready to go back home and work. The encouraging words of a reviewer to "go home and photograph what you know" hit hard. Being a lifelong Tacoman, I chose to try to capture a place I knew very well. The results were "Blueprints and Souvenirs". The blueprint composites are architectural panoramas I’ve seen since childhood. The souvenirs are new discoveries I continue to make in this city. The images presented here are a small sample of what I gathered on this project.
